The 3M™ Wetordry™ paper disc 431Q measures 12" in diameter with a NH attachment and features 240 grit silicon carbide abrasive. It utilizes extra-fast cutting silicon carbide on a strong, durable waterproof paper backing, providing superior finishing for both wet and dry applications across various substrates. Designed for use with water, these discs enable rinsing of the workpiece and abrasive surface during use to prevent clogging from dust and debris while reducing airborne dust and producing faster cuts. They are ideal for surfaces that generate significant dust such as paint, primer, and wood, and can also be used dry for finishing metal and gel coats. The pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing ensures easy attachment to a random orbital sander and is suitable for high heat and severe disc sanding applications, while convenient liners reduce contamination prior to use. The silicon carbide mineral chosen is very hard and fractures easily, creating freshly exposed sharp edges that cut fast and yield a smooth, professional finish. Although it wears faster than aluminum oxide, silicon carbide produces a superior finish and is commonly used for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation and finishing on wood and metal. The waterproof paper backing is lighter weight than cloth, smooth rather than textured, and is preferable for lighter applications such as finishing and paint prep that produce significant dust; sanding with water helps minimize clogging and maintain an efficient work environment.
