The 3M™ PSA cloth disc 348D measures 2 inches in diameter with a P180 grit aluminum oxide abrasive, designed for heavy-duty sanding applications. It features a high-strength pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing that securely adheres the disc to a backup pad or steel platen for efficient use and clean removal. The disc incorporates a heat-resistant resin bond and cloth backing, making it suitable for high heat and demanding sanding tasks. The closed coat aluminum oxide particles provide a fast cut ideal for grinding and dual action sanding on metal, allowing for deburring, blending, cleaning, and finishing metal surfaces of various sizes and shapes. The PSA disc is compatible with disc sanders, random orbital sanders, and stationary disc sanders when pressed onto the appropriate backup pad, which is sold separately. Aluminum oxide abrasive is chosen for its fast cut rate, long life, and ability to self-fracture for fresh cutting edges in usage, outperforming traditional abrasives like garnet. This abrasive is effective across woodworking and metalworking materials, including ferrous alloys, due to its hardness, strength, and low heat retention. Heat-resistant resin ensures the abrasive remains firmly bonded under high heat and pressure conditions. Typical applications include blending, deburring, flat surface sanding, grinding, orbital sanding, random orbital sanding, and metal fabrication, serving industries such as metal fabrication and primary wood and panel processing.
