The 3M™ PSA Cloth Disc 348D 16" x NH 40 grit aluminum oxide is a heavy-duty sanding disc designed for high heat and demanding sanding applications, featuring a high-strength pressure-sensitive adhesive backing that adheres efficiently to a backup pad or steel platen for clean removal. It incorporates a heat-resistant resin bond and cloth backing, making it suitable for heavy-duty use. The disc is coated with aluminum oxide particles in a closed coat, providing a fast cut for grinding and dual action sanding on metal, making it ideal for deburring, blending, cleaning, and finishing metal parts of various sizes and shapes. The pressure-sensitive adhesive disc is applied to a backup pad, which is attached to disc sanders such as disc sanders, random orbital sanders, or stationary disc sanders (backup pad sold separately). Aluminum oxide abrasive is chosen for its fast cut-rate, long life, and self-fracturing properties that expose fresh cutting edges, outperforming traditional abrasives like garnet. This abrasive maintains hardness, strength, and low heat retention, making it widely applicable in grinding, sanding, and finishing for woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The heat-resistant resin securely bonds the abrasive to the backing even under high heat or pressure. Typical applications are blending, deburring, flat area sanding, grinding, orbital and random orbital sanding in metal fabrication and primary wood and panel processing industries.
