3M™ disc pad face plate provides firm support and the necessary force for grinding applications when used with a compatible fiber disc (sold separately). It is designed to work in conjunction with a disc pad hub (sold separately) that attaches to the power tool, with the face plate held in place using a retainer nut (sold separately). This system allows for easy changes of the 3M™ disc pad face plate without removing the disc pad hub, allowing versatility for various applications ranging from heavy grinding to fine finishing. Ribbed face plates enhance grinding pressure by reducing the contact area, optimizing the fracturing of the abrasive mineral, and extending disc life when dulling occurs. The face plates are available in different densities to match application requirements: lighter density for lighter grinding tasks and harder density for heavier grinding. The color-coded system facilitates easy identification: red indicates extra hard for heavy grinding with coarse grades, black represents hard for substantial metal removal, gray is for medium density suited for general grinding and finishing, and white denotes soft for finishing on flat or contoured surfaces.
