The 3M™ PSA cloth disc 348D 18" x NH 40 grit aluminum oxide is a heavy-duty sanding disc featuring a high-strength pressure-sensitive adhesive backing that adheres securely to a backup pad or steel platen for efficient application and clean removal. It incorporates a heat-resistant resin bond and cloth backing, making it suitable for high heat and heavy-duty sanding tasks. The disc utilizes aluminum oxide abrasive particles in a closed coat configuration, providing a fast cut for grinding and dual action (D/A) sanding specifically on metal surfaces. Aluminum oxide is chosen for its fast cut-rate, durability, self-fracturing qualities that expose fresh cutting edges, and suitability for both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. The disc is pressed onto a separately sold backup pad that attaches to various sanders such as disc sanders, random orbital sanders, or stationary disc sanders. Its design supports applications including blending, deburring, grinding, orbital sanding, and finishing on flat and contoured metal parts, commonly used in metal fabrication as well as primary wood and panel processing industries. The heat-resistant resin bond strengthens the abrasive’s adhesion to the cloth backing, maintaining bond stability under high heat or pressure during demanding operations.
