Grade VSS is a binder-free material designed for high heat applications that exceed the capabilities of typical borosilicate glass blends, making it suitable for the determination of fixed and volatile solids using the ignited at 550°C method 2540E. This material features low fiber shedding, which enhances the quality assurance of test results, and exhibits a low percent weight loss in gravimetric tests. With a particle retention of 1.50µm and a high loading capacity attributed to its high surface area and complex pore structure, it meets the compliance requirements of standard methods 2540C and 2540D as well as EPA method 160.2 for assessing water quality concerning suspended solids content. Additionally, Grade VSS is widely employed in air pollution monitoring, high-temperature flue gas applications, and the filtration of high-temperature solvents. The residue of total suspended solids (TSS) and total dissolved solids (TDS) after heating to dryness for a specific duration and temperature is classified as fixed solids, while volatile solids represent the portion of solids lost upon ignition at 550 degrees C, providing an estimate of the organic matter in the solid fraction.
