The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ coating removal disc measures 7 inches in diameter with a non-woven xCS grit silicon carbide abrasive designed to effectively remove paint and rust from metal surfaces and welds. The disc combines a conformable, non-woven material with extra coarse silicon carbide abrasives to remove coatings without gouging, undercutting, or damaging hard base materials. Its open-web material runs cool and resists loading, maintaining active cutting for consistent results throughout the product's life. The disc provides more surface area than wire brushes, ensuring safety by eliminating loose wires, and features a hook and loop backing for secure attachment during use. Silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral abrasive suited for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation, delivering a superior finish although it breaks down faster than aluminum oxide. Scotch-Brite™ industrial abrasives incorporate abrasives into non-woven nylon or synthetic fibers, creating a load-resistant system that limits clogging and ensures high performance.
