The 3M™ Scotch-Brite™ Coating Removal Disc measures 5 inches in diameter with a non-woven nylon and silicon carbide abrasive composition, featuring an extra coarse grit designed to effectively remove paint and rust from metal surfaces and welds without gouging or damaging the base material. The open-web, conformable, non-woven material runs cool and resists loading, maintaining active cutting performance for consistent results throughout the product's life, and provides more surface area than wire brushes while eliminating the risk of wire fibers flying loose. The disc uses silicon carbide, a synthetic mineral highly effective for low-pressure applications such as paint preparation, producing a superior finish despite breaking down faster than aluminum oxide. The hook and loop backing securely holds the disc in place during use. Scotch-Brite™ industrial abrasives incorporate abrasive minerals into synthetic fibers, creating a surface conditioning product that delivers consistent results and limits clogging by load-resistant open-web material.
