FEP rods and sheets are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene, a relatively soft thermoplastic recognized for its chemical inertness and low dielectric constant across a wide frequency range. Although FEP has lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to many other engineering plastics, it boasts exceptional attributes such as a high degree of stress crack resistance and a low coefficient of friction. FEP can withstand heat resistance and retains its properties after prolonged use at temperatures up to 400°F (204°C), while still being useful at extremely low temperatures of -454°F (-270°C). It complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 and features high transparency, providing good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths, along with the lowest refractive index of all thermoplastics, resulting in low light reflection equivalent to that of water.
