FEP rods and sheets are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene, a thermoplastic known for its chemical inertness and low dielectric constant across a wide frequency range. While it has lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to other engineering plastics, FEP excels in stress crack resistance and has a low coefficient of friction. Its exceptional dielectric properties and heat resistance allow it to retain useful characteristics after service at temperatures of 400°F (204°C) and down to -454°F (-270°C). FEP complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 and exhibits high transparency, providing good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. Additionally, it possesses the lowest refractive index among thermoplastics, resulting in low light reflection similar to that of water.
