FEP rods and sheets are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene, a relatively soft thermoplastic known for its chemical inertness and low dielectric constant across a wide frequency range. These materials exhibit lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to many other engineering plastics. FEP offers exceptional dielectric properties, heat resistance, and retention of its properties after service at temperatures up to 400°F (204°C), while still being useful at temperatures as low as -454°F (-270°C). Notably, FEP has a very high degree of stress crack resistance and a low coefficient of friction. It features high transparency with good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths, and it has the lowest refractive index among all thermoplastics, resulting in low light reflection akin to that of water. FEP also meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 compliance standards.
