FEP rods and sheets are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene, a relatively soft thermoplastic characterized by lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to many other engineering plastics. However, FEP is chemically inert and features a low dielectric constant over a wide frequency range. It offers a high degree of stress crack resistance, a low coefficient of friction, and exceptional dielectric properties, making it suitable for various applications. FEP exhibits heat resistance and retains its properties after being subjected to service temperatures of 400°F (204°C) while maintaining useful properties down to -454°F (-270°C). Additionally, it meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 standards. The material boasts high transparency with good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths, and it has the lowest refractive index of all thermoplastics, resulting in low light reflection similar to that of water.
