FEP rods and sheets are composed of fluorinated ethylene propylene, a relatively soft thermoplastic that exhibits lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to many other engineering plastics. Key features of FEP include its chemical inertness, low dielectric constant across a wide frequency range, and exceptional dielectric properties. Additionally, FEP shows a high degree of stress crack resistance and a low coefficient of friction. It is capable of retaining useful properties after exposure to temperatures up to 400°F (204°C) and remains functional at temperatures as low as -454°F (-270°C). FEP also meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 compliance standards. With high transparency and good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths, FEP is notable for having the lowest refractive index among thermoplastics, exhibiting low light reflection comparable to that of water.
