FEP rods and sheets are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene, a relatively soft thermoplastic known for its chemical inertness and low dielectric constant over a wide frequency range. These materials exhibit lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to many other engineering plastics. Key features include a very high degree of stress crack resistance, a low coefficient of friction, exceptional dielectric properties, and heat resistance, maintaining useful properties after service at 400°F (204°C) and down to -454°F (-270°C). FEP meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 compliance standards and offers high transparency with good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths. Additionally, it possesses the lowest refractive index of all thermoplastics, resulting in low light reflection comparable to that of water.
