FEP rods and sheets are made from fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), a thermoplastic known for its chemical inertness and exceptional dielectric properties. While FEP has lower tensile strength, wear resistance, and creep resistance compared to many other engineering plastics, it exhibits a high degree of stress crack resistance and a low coefficient of friction. This material is capable of enduring temperatures up to 400°F (204°C) and maintains useful properties even at extremely low temperatures of -454°F (-270°C). FEP meets FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 standards, ensuring its safety for various applications. Additionally, FEP is highly transparent, allowing good transmittance of ultraviolet and visible wavelengths, and it features the lowest refractive index of all thermoplastics, resulting in low light reflection similar to that of water.
