Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes from DuPont are high-temperature resistant insulation products that exhibit an excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer, they are available in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). Nomex has found extensive applications as electrical insulation in liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Among its offerings, Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that provides high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, making it suitable for a variety of electrical equipment applications. Type 410 comes in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm) and maintains a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at 400°C (750°F). Additionally, Nomex Type 411, which is uncalendered, is available in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm and is commonly used as a soft cushioning material where conformability and impregnability are important. Other types in the Nomex range include Nomex Type 414, Type 418, Nomex pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
