Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes from DuPont are high-temperature resistant insulation materials known for their excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer, they come in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). Nomex has gained wide acceptance as electrical insulation in liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that provides high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). This type maintains a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Additionally, Nomex Type 411, which is uncalendered, is offered in thicknesses between 0.13 mm and 0.58 mm, making it suitable for applications requiring soft cushioning, conformability, and impregnability. Other types available include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
