Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes are produced by DuPont and serve as a high-temperature resistant insulation product with a remarkable balance of physical and electrical properties. The material is crafted entirely from synthetic aramid polymer and comes in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). Nomex is extensively utilized as electrical insulation in both liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that provides exceptional inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, and is the original form of Nomex paper, extensively used across a wide range of electrical equipment applications. This type is available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm) and can maintain a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Nomex Type 411, which is uncalendered, is offered in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm and is commonly used as soft cushioning material where conformability and impregnability are critical. Other types available include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
