Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes from DuPont are high-temperature resistant insulation products known for their excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. These products are made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). Nomex is commonly used as electrical insulation in liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that offers high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience. It is available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm) and is utilized in nearly all electrical equipment applications. Notably, Nomex 410 can maintain a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures of 400°C (750°F). Nomex Type 411, which is uncalendered, is available in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm and is often used when conformability and impregnability are critical, serving as a soft cushioning material. Additional types include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
