Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes, produced by DuPont, are advanced high-temperature resistant insulation products that exhibit an exceptional balance of physical and electrical properties. Nomex is entirely composed of synthetic aramid polymer and comes in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). This material is widely utilized for electrical insulation in liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is calendered insulation paper that provides high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, and is available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). It is effective in maintaining a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Nomex Type 411, an uncalendered version, is offered in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm, and is commonly used as soft cushioning material where conformability and impregnability are required. Additional types include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
