Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes, produced by DuPont, are high-temperature resistant insulation products designed with an excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer, Nomex is available in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). Nomex has found widespread use as electrical insulation in liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. The Nomex type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that provides high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience. As the original form of Nomex paper, type 410 is extensively utilized in various electrical equipment applications and is available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). It maintains a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures of 400°C (750°F). Additionally, Nomex type 411 (uncalendered) comes in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm, often serving as a soft cushioning material or when conformability and impregnability are critical. Other variants include Nomex type 414, type 418, Nomex pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
