Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes, manufactured by DuPont, are high-temperature resistant insulation products that offer an excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer, Nomex is available in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). It is widely used as electrical insulation for liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that provides high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience. This original form of Nomex paper is available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm) and is suitable for nearly all electrical sheet insulation applications, maintaining a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at 400°C (750°F). Nomex Type 411, which is uncalendered, comes in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm and is often used as a soft cushioning material, particularly when conformability and impregnability are critical. Additional types available include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
