Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes are high-temperature resistant insulation products developed by DuPont, featuring an excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer, Nomex is available in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). It is widely utilized as electrical insulation for liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that offers high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, and is offered in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). Type 410 maintains a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Nomex Type 411 is an uncalendered variant available in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm, often employed as soft cushioning material where conformability and impregnability are critical. Additional types available include Nomex Type 414, Type 418, Nomex pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
