Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes from DuPont are high-temperature resistant insulation products with an excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer, Nomex is available in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). It is widely adopted as electrical insulation for liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper known for its high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, and is offered in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). It maintains a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures of 400°C (750°F). Nomex Type 411, which is uncalendered, is available in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm and is often utilized as a soft cushioning material where conformability and impregnability are important. Additionally, other types available include Nomex Type 414, Type 418, Nomex pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
