Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes, produced by DuPont, are high-temperature resistant insulation products known for their excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. Constructed entirely from synthetic aramid polymer, Nomex consists of two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). Nomex has been extensively utilized as electrical insulation in liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that offers high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, and is available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). This type maintains a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Additionally, Nomex type 411 is uncalendered and comes in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm, often serving as soft cushioning material where conformability and impregnability are crucial. Other available types include Nomex® type 414, type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
