Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes, produced by DuPont, are high-temperature resistant insulation products characterized by a superior balance of physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer in two forms—short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids)—Nomex is extensively utilized as electrical insulation in liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. The Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that features high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, and comes in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). This type maintains a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at a temperature of 400°C (750°F), making it suitable for nearly all electrical sheet insulation applications. Additionally, Nomex Type 411 is offered in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm and is often used as cushioning material where conformability and impregnability are critical. Other available types include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
