Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes from DuPont are high-temperature resistant insulation products that provide an exceptional balance of physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer in two forms—short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids)—Nomex has become a preferred choice for electrical insulation in liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper offering high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, and is widely utilized in various electrical equipment applications. It is available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm) and can maintain 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) dielectric strength for several hours at 400°C (750°F). Nomex Type 411, which is uncalendered, comes in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm and is often used as soft cushioning material or where conformability and impregnability are essential. Additional available types include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
