Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes from DuPont are a high-temperature resistant insulation product known for their excellent physical and electrical properties. Made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer, Nomex is available in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). Nomex is extensively utilized as electrical insulation for both liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper that delivers high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience. As the original form of Nomex paper, Type 410 is used in a broad range of electrical equipment applications, available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). It can maintain a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Nomex Type 411, which is uncalendered, comes in thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm and is often used as soft cushioning material or where conformability and impregnability are critical. Other available types include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
