Nomex® aramid paper sheets and tubes, produced by DuPont, are high-temperature resistant insulation products characterized by a unique blend of physical and electrical properties. Nomex is composed entirely of synthetic aramid polymer, available in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). This insulation material is extensively utilized in electrical applications such as liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators. Nomex Type 410, a calendered insulation paper, is known for its high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility, and resilience, and is available in 11 thicknesses ranging from 2 to 30 mils (0.05 to 0.76 mm). It can maintain a dielectric strength of 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) for several hours at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Additionally, Nomex Type 411 is offered in uncalendered form, with thicknesses from 0.13 mm to 0.58 mm, ideal for use as soft cushioning material or in applications where conformability and impregnability are critical. Other variants include Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® pressboard, T992, T993, and T994.
