Product Details
The 3M Attest biological indicators are designed to monitor the effectiveness of the steam sterilization process and provide results within 24 hours. The 3M™ Attest™ 1261 biological indicators are specifically formulated for use in 270°F/132°C gravity steam cycles. This self-contained biological indicator (BI) contains a Geobacillus stearothermophilus spore strip, a sealed glass ampule with growth medium, and a bromocresol purple pH indicator dye system. It features a blue color-coded cap with holes for sterilant penetration and a filter that acts as a barrier, along with a chemical indicator on the label that changes from rose to brown when processed. After the sterilization process, the vial is designed to be "crushed" to mix the growth media with the spore strip, followed by a 24-hour incubation period to observe a visual color change for result interpretation. A color change to yellow indicates the presence of surviving spores, resulting in a positive outcome. These biological indicator vials are user-friendly and provide clear, visual results within 24 hours. They are self-contained to significantly reduce contamination risks, thus minimizing false positives and ensuring more reliable monitoring of 270°F/132°C gravity steam sterilization processes. When used in conjunction with the 3M™ Attest™ biological indicator incubator 116, the design enhances the challenge presented to various steam sterilization cycles. The spore burden exceeds the average bioburden, providing an additional safety margin, while the optimized media promote rapid spore growth. The definitive color change within the media serves as an indicator of sterilization process effectiveness. The verification time of 24 hours offers a significant advantage over traditional one-week, mail-in services.
