The 3M™ SR Cutter is a plastic rotary cutting tool designed for use with slow-speed right-angle drills, featuring an attached 1/4"-28 male threaded metal mandrel. This tool efficiently removes sealants or other thick coatings with minimal abrasion to the underlying base material, making it an effective alternative to hand scraping and chemical solvents, particularly in the aerospace industry. It is available in two sizes: No. 3 for flat surfaces and No. 8 for cleaning around rivets or fasteners, ensuring versatility in coating removal. The cylindrical blades function effectively both horizontally and vertically, cutting through various sealants such as polysulfide, polythioether, polyurethane, RTV sealants, and silicones. The design of the plastic blades eliminates the need for resharpening, enhancing productivity and reducing follow-up work for repainting or repairing damaged coatings. The 3M™ SR Cutter allows for immediate sealant removal without the hazardous mess associated with chemical solvents, as the only waste generated is the sealant itself. To use the No. 3 Cutter, place it at the head of the sealant bead, apply firm downward pressure, and use low rotational speed to remove sealant effectively, increasing the speed once the substrate is exposed to engage the cutter blades properly.
