3M™ Interam™ endothermic mat E-5A-4 is a heat-absorbing wrap system designed to provide excellent fire resistance for structural steel components, critical electrical components, and wall opening membranes. The mat works by releasing chemically bound water when exposed to intense heat, which cools its outer surfaces and slows heat transfer during fires. This flexible and versatile material is easy to cut and configure, allowing installation on complex shapes and around corners without corrosion or maintenance when properly installed. It provides up to 4-hour fire protection for structural steel according to ASTM E 119, up to 3-hour protection for electrical circuits according to ASTM E 1725, and achieves equal F-rating and T-rating in membrane penetrations of rated wall assemblies when applied to metallic utility boxes. Additionally, it offers protection against large hydrocarbon pool fires in compliance with ASTM E 1529 (UL 1709). The kit includes the endothermic mat with dimensions and specifications suitable for various fire protection applications such as structural steel, electrical circuitry, cables, cable trays, conduits, equipment shrouds, and membrane penetrations.
