The Merit chrome plated brass schedule 40 nipple measures 1/4 inch by 12 inches NPT male and is manufactured from seamless red brass pipe, alloy 230. These chrome plated red brass nipples are easier to machine, less brittle, and more resistant to corrosion than yellow brass, as they do not dezincify. Brass offers good corrosion resistance against water and heat and withstands attack from salt water, acids, minerals, and peaty soils found in water. This material is primarily used for water in commercial plumbing and OEM applications and is also suitable for oil, gas, and steam applications. Chrome plating on these brass nipples provides ease of cleaning, prevents dirt and bacteria accumulation, and maintains a shiny finish.
