The Merit chrome plated brass schedule 40 nipple measures 1/4 x 8 NPT male and is produced from seamless red brass pipe, which is Alloy 230. These chrome plated red brass nipples are easier to machine, less brittle, and far more resistant to corrosion than yellow brass, as they will not dezincify. Brass provides good corrosion resistance from water and heat, and it effectively resists attacks from salt water, acids, minerals, and peaty soils contained in water. While primarily utilized for water in commercial plumbing and OEM applications, brass is also suitable for oil, gas, and steam applications. Additionally, chrome plated brass nipples are favored for their ease of cleaning, their resistance to attracting dirt and bacteria, and their ability to maintain a shiny finish.
