The Merit chrome plated brass schedule 40 nipple measures 1-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches with NPT male threads. It is made from seamless red brass pipe, alloy 230, which is chrome plated for added durability. This material offers improved machinability, reduced brittleness, and superior corrosion resistance compared to yellow brass, as it does not dezincify. The brass construction resists corrosion from water, heat, salt water, acids, minerals, and peaty soils commonly found in water. Primarily used for water applications in commercial plumbing and OEM settings, it is also suitable for oil, gas, and steam uses.
