The Merit chrome plated brass schedule 40 nipple measures 1/2 x 5 inches and features NPT male threading. These nipples are produced from seamless red brass pipe, specifically alloy 230, which provides enhanced machinability and reduced brittleness compared to yellow brass, minimizing the risk of dezincification. Brass is recognized for its good corrosion resistance against water and heat, as well as its resilience to saltwater, acids, and minerals present in peaty soils. Primarily, brass is utilized in commercial plumbing and OEM applications for water transport, while also being suitable for oil, gas, and steam applications.
