Grade VSS® is a binder-free material manufactured using a proprietary glass chemistry that permits usage in high heat applications beyond typical borosilicate glass blends. It is ideally suited for the determination of fixed and volatile solids ignited at 550°C according to method 2540E. The material features low fiber shedding, which improves the quality assurance of test results, and exhibits a low percentage of weight loss when used in gravimetric tests. Its high loading capacity is attributed to its high surface area and complex pore structure. This material is compliant with the requirements of Standard Methods 2540C and 2540D as well as EPA Method 160.2 for establishing water quality in suspended solids content. Total suspended solids (TSS) are defined as those retained by a glass-fiber filter disk without organic binder.
