The 3M™ Cubitron™ II fibre disc quick change 987C features a 5" diameter with TN ceramic grain in 80+ grit, designed for use on nearly all metals, especially stainless steel and nickel alloys. It is ideal for applications such as weld removal, beveling, mill scale removal, and addressing pits and imperfections. Utilizing 3M Precision Shaped Grain technology, the disc delivers an exceptionally high cut rate with less pressure, enabling faster task completion and reduced operator fatigue. The grinding aid incorporated helps keep the disc cooler on stainless steel and heat-sensitive metals like nickel alloys and titanium, minimizing metal discoloration, oxidation, and the risk of heat-related stress cracks. This cooling effect also preserves the abrasive grain, allowing the disc to last significantly longer than conventional ceramic grain discs, which results in a lower cost per grind and fewer disc changes. The precision-shaped triangular abrasive grains are electrostatically oriented on the backing, creating sharp peaks that slice through metal cleanly while continuously self-sharpening as the points break off. This design ensures a fast cut rate and reduces heat buildup due to friction, further decreasing heat-related defects.
