The 3M™ Flap Disc 577F measures 7 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 T27 arbor and features alumina zirconia abrasive mineral with a 36 grit size, designed for tough grinding applications where final finish is important. Its overlapping fiber-reinforced flaps wear away to expose fresh abrasive material for a fast, consistent cut while cushioning the workpiece to create a blended finish that typically results in a grade finer surface compared to the disc’s grit. The flap disc includes a grinding aid to reduce temperature, making it suitable for heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. It is intended for use with a right angle grinder and comes in a giant size that maintains the same 7-inch diameter as standard discs but with wider flaps, offering 25% more abrasive material for more aggressive cutting and longer life. The three-dimensional flap construction enables grinding and finishing in a single step and improves flexibility to follow curves and contours with less gouging, providing enhanced operator comfort. Typical applications include weld grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, and weld seam blending, making it suitable for metal fabrication tasks such as blending, deburring, edge beveling, finishing, polishing, and right angle grinding.
