The 3M™ flap disc 577F measures 7" in diameter with a 5/8-11 T27 arbor and features alumina zirconia abrasive at 40 grit, designed for tough grinding applications where the final finish is important. The disc has overlapping layers of abrasive-coated, fiber-reinforced flaps that continually wear away to expose fresh mineral for fast, consistent cutting, with cushioning that creates a blended finish typically one grade finer than the disc’s grit, reducing finishing steps. It includes a grinding aid to reduce grinding temperatures, making it suitable for heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. The flap disc is used on right angle grinders and the giant size offers the same diameter as standard discs but with wider flaps loaded with 25% more abrasive material, providing a more aggressive cut and longer life. Its three-dimensional design allows it to easily follow curves and contours while reducing gouging and enhancing operator comfort. This flap disc is a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, grinding and finishing in a single step, and is ideal for applications such as weld grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, and weld seam blending in metal fabrication.
