The 3M™ flap disc 577F measures 7 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 arbor and features T27 alumina zirconia abrasive material in 60 grit. It is designed for tough grinding applications where a final finish is important, using overlapping layers of abrasive-coated, fiber-reinforced flaps that continually wear away to expose fresh abrasive mineral, ensuring a fast, consistent cut and blended finish. This flap disc includes a grinding aid to reduce grinding temperatures during processes involving heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. It is used on a right angle grinder and its giant size has the same diameter as standard flap discs but wider flaps that are 25% thicker, providing more aggressive cutting and longer life. The discs provide a finish typically one grade finer than the disc is graded, reducing finishing steps, and are capable of following curves and contours with less gouging, enhancing operator comfort. Applications include welding grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, weld seam blending, blending, edge beveling, finishing, polishing, and metal fabrication. The flap disc offers a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, grinding and finishing in a single step, making it a time and cost-saving solution in many typical applications.
