The 3M™ Flap Disc 577F Giant measures 7" in diameter with a 7/8" arbor size and uses a T27 backing, featuring alumina zirconia abrasive mineral with a 40 grit rating. It is designed for tough grinding applications where a quality final finish is important. The disc consists of overlapping layers of fiber-reinforced, abrasive-coated flaps that continually wear away to expose fresh abrasive mineral, providing a fast and consistent cut while cushioning the contact area to create a blended finish. The flap disc produces a final finish typically one grade finer than the disc’s grit, reducing the need for additional finishing steps. It includes a grinding aid to lower grinding temperatures, which is especially beneficial when working with heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. This right-angle grinder accessory features wider flaps compared to standard flap discs, resulting in 25% more abrasive material for a more aggressive cut and extended life. The flap discs serve as a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, capable of grinding and finishing simultaneously, which enhances efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Their flexible construction allows for easy contouring with less gouging while improving operator comfort.
