The 3M™ Flap Disc 577F Giant measures 7 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 thread size and features a Type 27 alumina zirconia abrasive with 36 grit. It is designed for tough grinding applications where a final finish is important, utilizing overlapping layers of abrasive-coated, fiber-reinforced flaps that wear away to expose fresh abrasive mineral for a fast, consistent cut and a blended finish. The flap disc includes a grinding aid to reduce temperatures when grinding heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. These three-dimensional discs are used on right angle grinders and have wider flaps than standard discs, packing 25% more abrasive material for a more aggressive cut and longer life. Flap discs serve as a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, grinding and finishing in a single step while producing finishes typically one grade finer than comparable fiber discs. The flexible flaps follow curves and contours with less gouging, enhancing operator comfort.
