The 3M™ Flap Disc 577F Giant measures 7 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 t27 arbor and features alumina zirconia abrasive mineral with a 40 grit specification. It is designed for tough grinding applications where the final finish is important. The disc consists of overlapping, fiber-reinforced abrasive-coated flaps that wear away to expose fresh mineral, providing a fast and consistent cut with cushioning that creates a blended finish typically one grade finer than the disc grit rating. Equipped with a grinding aid to reduce temperatures during processes involving heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium, it is used on a right-angle grinder. The giant size offers a standard 7" diameter but with wider flaps, packed with 25% more abrasive material than standard discs for a more aggressive cut and longer life. Flap discs serve as a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, offering grinding and finishing in a single step, and are effective in applications such as weld grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, and weld seam blending. The disc’s three-dimensional construction allows flexibility to follow curves and contours while minimizing gouging and enhancing operator comfort. This product is suited for blending, deburring, edge beveling, finishing, polishing, and metal fabrication tasks requiring right-angle grinding.
