The 3M™ flap disc 577F measures 7 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 arbor size and features alumina zirconia abrasive mineral with an 80 grit rating, designed for tough grinding applications where the final finish is important. The disc consists of overlapping layers of abrasive-coated, fiber-reinforced flaps that continually wear away to expose fresh abrasive for a fast, consistent cut while cushioning the work surface to create a blended finish, typically generating a finish one grade finer than the disc's grit. A grinding aid reduces grinding temperatures for heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. Flap discs are used with right angle grinders. This giant size flap disc has the same 7-inch diameter as a standard disc but with wider flaps packed with 25% more abrasive material for a more aggressive cut and longer life. The flap disc is a three-dimensional grinding solution that grinds and finishes in one step, reducing finishing stages and outlasting typical fiber discs due to its overlapping construction allowing more abrasive material on the cutting surface. These discs offer flexibility to easily follow curves and contours, reduce gouging, and improve operator comfort, making them suitable for weld grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, weld seam blending, edge beveling, finishing, and polishing tasks primarily in metal fabrication.
