The 3M™ flap disc 577F measures 7" in diameter with a 7/8" arbor and features a T29 backing pad, utilizing alumina zirconia abrasive mineral at 36 grit for tough grinding applications where a high-quality final finish is important. It consists of overlapping layers of abrasive-coated, fiber-reinforced flaps that continually wear away to expose fresh abrasive, ensuring a fast and consistent cut while cushioning to create a blended finish. The disc includes a grinding aid to reduce temperatures during grinding processes, making it suitable for heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium. Designed for use on right angle grinders, this giant size flap disc has standard diameter but wider flaps, providing 25% more abrasive material than standard flap discs for more aggressive cutting and longer life. It offers a finish typically one grade finer than the disc grit would suggest, reducing finishing steps, and is a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, grinding and finishing simultaneously to save time and cost. The flap disc’s flexible design allows it to easily follow curves and contours with less gouging and greater operator comfort, making it ideal for applications such as weld grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, and weld seam blending in metal fabrication.
