The 3M™ flap disc 577F measures 7" in diameter with a 7/8" arbor and features a T29 backing pad made with alumina zirconia abrasive at 60 grit, designed for tough grinding applications where the final finish is important. Its overlapping layers of fiber-reinforced abrasive-coated flaps continually wear away to expose fresh abrasive mineral, providing a fast and consistent cut while the cushioning of the flaps creates a blended finish typically one grade finer than the disc's grit rating, reducing finishing steps. This flap disc includes a grinding aid to reduce grinding temperatures, making it suitable for heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys, and titanium, and is intended for use on a right angle grinder. The giant size flap discs maintain the 7" diameter but incorporate wider flaps, resulting in extra-thick layers with 25% more abrasive material compared to standard flap discs, providing a more aggressive cut and longer life. These three-dimensional discs serve as a one-step alternative to bonded wheels and fiber discs, performing grinding and finishing simultaneously, supporting applications such as weld grinding, deburring, rust removal, edge grinding, and weld seam blending. The flap discs' flexibility allows them to follow curves and contours with less gouging while enhancing operator comfort.
