Scotch-Brite™ SC surface conditioning belts are designed to effectively remove coarse grindlines, mill marks, or small burrs left by cutting tools or conventional abrasives. These abrasive belts are available in various widths and lengths, making them suitable for a wide range of belt sanding tools and applications on both wood and metal. The selection includes wide belts for sanding and finishing large wood panels, medium-width belts for edge or portable sanders, and narrow belts for file tools in metalworking, allowing access to small areas or inside corners. The belts are manufactured with a choice of silicon carbide or aluminum oxide abrasive mineral; silicon carbide is known for its sharpness and is typically used for low-pressure applications like paint prep and finishing, while aluminum oxide offers a hard, blocky structure that delivers a high cut-rate and long life. Although silicon carbide tends to break down faster, resulting in a finer finish, the continued performance of belt sanders is notable, as they resist clogging due to the small grooves that open in the abrasive as they revolve around the drive wheel.
