3M™ Cross Pad 341D measures 2" x 2" x 1/2" and features an aluminum oxide abrasive with a grit rating of 80. This cross pad is specifically designed for close tolerance polishing of small radii and channels, as well as deburring the ends and insides of tubing, making it suitable for various special applications. Its flexible cross shape enables it to conform to the diameter of the workpiece when inserted into a hole or channel, enhancing its versatility for inside diameter finishing tasks. The X-weight cloth backing supports both grinding and polishing operations, while the closed coat of aluminum oxide abrasive is secured with a heat-resistant resin bond. The cross pad attaches to a threaded mandrel (sold separately) compatible with rotary tools such as die grinders or drills, facilitating the grinding or finishing of inner contours in channels of varying sizes. The maximum RPM specification depends on the pad size, and aluminum oxide is favored in industrial applications for its fast cut-rate and durability, as it self-fractures to reveal fresh cutting edges. This mineral is widely employed for its effectiveness in grinding, sanding, and finishing applications across a range of materials, including ferrous alloys. The resin bond ensures that the abrasive particles remain firmly attached to the cloth backing, providing a strong bond that withstands the high heat and pressure encountered during heavy sanding tasks.
