The 3M Flap Wheel Type 83 747D is a 3" x 1" x 1/4" abrasive tool featuring 80 grit ceramic mixed ceramic abrasive. Each flap is covered with a proprietary ceramic abrasive mix that enhances the toughness and hardness of the grain, incorporating aluminum oxide blended with 3M ceramic grain for improved performance, making it ideal for light to moderate stock removal. This ceramic/aluminum oxide blend is designed to surpass standard aluminum oxide abrasives in terms of cut-rate and durability, making it suitable for moderate stock removal and surface preparation. The wheel features high-quality construction, with the abrasive mix attached to a flexible cotton backing via a specially designed resin bond that resists thermal and chemical deterioration during high-speed sanding. It includes a grinding aid for cooler running on stainless steel, and utilizes an X-weight cotton backing for flexibility and toughness that conforms to various work pieces. As the wheel is used, self-cutting flaps wear away, continuously exposing sharp new abrasive material for consistent sanding throughout the wheel's life. 3M flap wheels are specifically advantageous for light grinding, blending, graining, and scale removal across various metals, and are available in both flange mounted and spindle mounted constructions with general purpose aluminum oxide or high performing 3M ceramic aluminum oxide blend abrasive grain.
